HiFiMAN HM-801

>> Wednesday, April 7, 2010

This portable music player is better than an iPod or Zune while it comes to music that is. You might wonder how this clunky portable music player that seems like a Walkman from the ’90s beat a music player that you believe as a bonanza. Well, come to imagine that a music player so small such as that of an iPod or a Zune would not have enough space for hardware to delight the audiophiles and do not get you started on how small the Shuffle is.
The HM-801 is a music player that will play “real” music to the ears of audiophiles everywhere. It gets a detachable amplifier that boosts the sounds while inserted. The detachable mechanism would let upgrades in the future with a simple introduction of a module. This makes the player a great investment instead of ending up a few seasons forward and sees that a new creation is already out.

What build this portable player sound so great are the Burr-Brown PCM1704U digital-to-analog converter and Burr-Brown OPA627 Op-Amp. These parts are recognized to high end equipments, but not to a portable music player. Instead of getting a built-in memory, a 32GB SDHC card can be inserted that could contain about 50 CD quality albums. The battery can keep on playing for 8 hours before requiring a recharge.
If you have the Etymotic, Grado, Klipsch, Monster, Shure, or the Ultimate Ears, then perhaps you are not finding the full sound out of your high end earphones.
